Staying safe on MyCamper

How we protect you and how you can keep yourself safe when renting and renting out on MyCamper

How we verify users

To ensure users on the platform are real and trustworthy, we use multiple forms of verification. These verification methods are made before a booking can be started, to keep both the renter and owner safe.

ID Verification

Users on MyCamper go through an identity verification process. This process varies depending on country, but ensures that the person you're dealing with is who they say they are.

Credit reports

To give users additional peace of mind, we also run credit checks. This isn't about judging someone's financial situation. it's a practical measure to confirm the renter's identity through an independent source and assess reliability of the information they have provided.

Checking verification

When viewing a users profile we show a badge with their information to display whether they are verified and other relevant information.

We also ensure that a user has passed all relevant checks before you can rent from them, or they can rent from you.

Payment safety

Always pay through MyCamper

Every payment for a MyCamper booking should happen on the MyCamper website. Our payment system is the only way to ensure your money is protected. If someone asks you to pay outside the platform do not do this unless you have verified on the MyCamper website or with the support team that this is allowed.

Why this matters: Payments made off-platform aren't covered by MyCamper's protections. If something goes wrong with a payment paid outside MyCamper, we can't help recover your money.

Why MyCamper holds the deposit

When you book a camper, a deposit is taken. This is a deliberate choice to protect both sides of the transaction.

The deposit is released automatically after the booking ends, provided the owner confirms the vehicle was returned in good condition. If there's a claim, our team reviews the evidence before any amount is charged.

This is beneficial for both parties:

  • For renters: Your deposit is held securely by MyCamper, not by a private individual. It's only charged if there's documented damage, and any dispute goes through our support team. You're never at the mercy of a single person's judgment.

  • For owners: You don't have to chase renters for damage costs or handle awkward money conversations. MyCamper takes care of it.

Chat safety

Keep all messages on MyCamper

Our built-in messaging system is there for a reason. When your conversations happen on MyCamper, we can:

  • Step in and help if a misunderstanding or dispute arises

  • Provide a clear record of what was agreed

  • Detect suspicious behaviour and protect you from scams

If someone asks you to switch to another messaging approach in the conversation, treat it as a warning sign. Legitimate owners and renters should be happy to use the platform and the safety it provides.

Be mindful of what you share

Through MyCamper's chat, you'll typically share practical details like pickup logistics and travel plans. That's normal, but never share:

  • Bank account or credit card details

  • Copies of ID documents

  • Your home address or other sensitive personal information

Avoid scams

MyCamper will never send you messages from our chat, all messages from our support team go through our support system. If you are contacted in our chat by a user claiming to be from our team please contact MyCamper support.

You should also be careful with messages you receive from the other user. If you receive a link or attachment make sure you trust it before opening. Also ensure you never follow links to pay or login somewhere else.

If you are ever unsure about a message you have received and what you should do, contact the support team for assistance.
