As an owner, how does the refund work if a rental is interrupted due to major damage or a breakdown?

If a rental is interrupted due to a major breakdown or damage that makes the vehicle unusable, renters may be entitled to a partial refund for the unused rental period.

When may a refund be applicable?

  • The vehicle suffers a major breakdown or damage that prevents further use.
  • The issue is not caused by the renter’s misuse or negligence.
  • The renter is unable to continue the trip and must return the vehicle earlier than planned.

Minor issues that do not significantly affect the usability of the vehicle (e.g., small equipment malfunctions) do not qualify for a refund. The renter must provide clear evidence such as photos or videos showing that the vehicle is unusable.

How is the refund calculated?

The refund amount is based on the number of unused rental nights.
Example: If a renter booked a vehicle for 7 nights but had to return it after 3 nights due to a breakdown, they would be refunded for the remaining 4 nights.

How does the refund process work?

  1. The renter contacts the owner to arrange directly the refund for the unused nights.
  2. The owner refunds the amount directly to the renter via their preferred method.
  3. The renter contacts MyCamper Support to request the refund for the service fee on the unused nights on the credit card used for the booking.

Important Considerations:

  • Refunds apply only if the vehicle becomes completely unusable for the rest of the rental period.
  • Insurance costs are non-refundable
  • If the renter and owner agree on a partial compensation instead of a full refund, this must be arranged between them.
  • All communication should be documented via MyCamper’s messaging system for transparency.
